More US Intel leaks to embarrass Trump, this time satellite pictures showing 3 large ships on fire in the Gulf believed to be the 3 Destroyers Trump sent into the Straits to test Iran’s blockade.
The US has a long standing ban on releasing any satellite images from conflict zones though China has been releasing some, but these latest images are from a NASA satellite.
Iran claims that the destroyers were hit with drones only (not missiles) as their intention was not to seriously damage the vessels and dramatically escalate the situation but to turn them back.
The Iranians also claim that no Iranian navy small boats were sunk as claimed by the US but that the US navy did fire on several small fishing boats killing at least 1 person.
Also revealed by the images were 20-30 Iranian navy speedboats launched to intercept the US Destroyers.
And no one knows what Trump will do next, restart the hot war, walk away, or negotiate a get-out deal.
It seems that the extra US Marines being carried to the area are only just arriving in a few days while US military cargo planes have increased activity recently carrying extra supplies into the region.
But the world knows, thanks not least to US Intel leaks, that Trump is running out of time.
US munitions stocks are running very low (Iran’s aren’t), when US oil reserves run out in a month's time US gas prices will sky-rocket, and a global recession is steadily enveloping the world like a dense smog.
There is actually very little Trump can do and not much time to do it in.
Re-starting the hot war will just waste time while causing more destruction to the critical infrastructure of his allies, just walking away will intensify the coming global recession.
Trump's only real choice is to negotiate a get-out deal that also gets the Straits re-opened but then it was always the only real choice since the total failure of the first week of the conflict.
How Trump managed to manoeuvre himself into such a ridiculous, bungled situation beggars belief but here we are.

2275Trump is heading to China to beg the Chinese to make Iran climb down from their ever hardening stance on the Gulf war while Trump’s ‘nuke you’ threats are just not working.
It’s a massive blow to US prestige and the blatant failure of US diplomacy. Who could have known sending 2 Israeli representatives (Witkoff and Kushner) to negotiate on behalf of the US would turn out so badly?
The Chinese and the Russians will want to see a return to the status quo of free passage in the Gulf but the US will need to give something and that something would have been sanctions relief rather than reparations and it still would be if Trump ever considered consulting US diplomatic professionals instead of the deadly duo.
What is also clear is that Iran is no longer willing to allow Trump to continue belting out his bellicose bullshit uncontested, that he has won and Iran has lost as he has done every day for the last 2 months.
In the meantime Trump does recognise pain is coming to the US voters and is proposing dropping federal gasoline tax, but that’s just 18 cents on the gallon, so err yeah - not really much help there. It is said that 1 in every 11 barrels of oil pumped goes into American cars and over the next 2 months the lack of supply will begin to hurt.
First jet fuel which is happening now, then diesel, then natural gas and finally gasoline. Lack of supply will force demand destruction (a lot less driving this summer, including deliveries).
Interviewed by The Economist, oil experts say that due to the Gulf war the world lost 14 million barrels a day, that’s 13% of daily global supply and to destroy 13% of global demand the price range could be anywhere between $160 and $460 a barrel depending on urgency, just wait for reserves to run dry. Anyway, certainly at the moment prices are not high enough to balance supply and demand. When Russia invaded Ukraine with the fear of losing just 3 million barrels a day the price went to $130. Traders today are still betting on an early end to the crisis but time is ticking.
Meanwhile the walls are coming down, arch neocon Robert Kagan, founder of neocon think tank the Brookings Institute, pro Ukraine war and Iran war +++, and husband of Victoria Nuland, says the unthinkable, that the US is losing the war to Iran. The solution is of course starting a major ground war (what else could a leading neocon say after all?)
Trump’s long term recipe for success has been to keep faking it, so long as you hold at least some power eventually the other side will capitulate. That might work well in real estate but when dealing in international relations with an adversary facing an existential threat it’s never going to work at all. If China doesn’t help him get a deal Trump is likely to try to carry out his threats to rename its military initiative from Operation Epic Fury to Operation Sledgehammer and that Iran will be "decimated" without a deal.
