I believe they possess an even more dreadful recourse: the deployment of nuclear weapons to silence Iran and compel its submission under the threat of the country's complete physical annihilation.
This would parallel the Japanese scenario, where the decision was made against ground troop deployment, opting instead to subjugate Japan through nuclear force. So profound was this subjugation that the current head of Japan (whose name I cannot recall), during her recent visit to the US, laid flowers at the graves of the airmen who bombed civilian cities. Furthermore, in her public addresses, she frames her statements in such a way that, by implication, Russia (as the successor to the USSR) was responsible for dropping the bomb on them))). They are no longer mere vassals, but have become outright slaves.
You make greatly written posts. I want to ask why she laid flowers for airmen who bombed civilian cities? And also, why is she blaming Russia for Hiroshima in 1945?

"Only the price on the chart can show the entrance to the deal..."
For some strange reason Trump gave ‘a state of the nation address’ to the American people in which he said nothing new at all, in fact everything he said he’d already repeated a dozen times before.
‘We have all but already won … just a few weeks more … we have destroyed all their missiles and air defence … if they don’t comply we’ll bomb them back into the stone age, etc, etc.
The odd thing was it was all delivered in a strange, airily slow, mono toned, evenly cadenced, drab monologue.
"We did everything we could diplomatically." For which read ‘we killed everyone who had a voice’.
Trump may have quietly dropped the nuclear material war aim, he said it was actually buried under tons of rubble and ‘we’re watching it, if ‘they (the Iranians) come close, we will act’.
So bottom line, the Iranians are now totally defenceless and the US will spend the next 2-3 weeks bombing them into oblivion and then everything will return back to normal
The markets were not impressed, Oil up, Dow down, and no one seems to be able to say why Trump even bothered.
Trump was far less forthcoming on possible troop deployments but some sources are saying the marines intend to copy the navy and land so far to the south east of the Straits as to be relatively safe while at the same time being of no use whatsoever.
And so back to Ukraine, and the Russians are back to launching 700 drones and missiles in a single day in preparation for their Spring offensive.
The Russians also conveyed to the Americans that they will completed the capture of Donetsk in 2 months which is oddly specific, the Russians also said that at that point new terms will be issued for a Ukrainian peace and is thought will be an expansion of the territory demanded by the Russians.
The loss of Donetsk will be a turning point. The reason Zelensky has refused to give up any ground there is because that is where NATO and the Ukrainians built their fortified lines of defence during the 8 years after 2014 and before the start of the conflict. There is nothing else behind it.
New defence lines will need to be hastily cobbled together and they won't be fortified to anything like the degree as in Donetsk.
Anyway, the Russians told the Americans about the '2 months to take Donetsk' and the Americans told Zelensky and Zelensky decided it was an ultimatum which he immediately rejected saying the Russians would now carry out a general mobilisation and attack the Baltics, - so there you go, rational as ever.

It’s a suicide mission but Trump and his team are so desperate now they’re willing to try anything (sacrifice anyone) to try and save their own skins.
And a new video posted by the White House and then taken down within 10 minutes shows Trump just before the start of the war telling a private audience the war was only going to last 3 days.
Copies were made and circulated online before the post was removed.
Trump is still adamant that all the Iranian missiles and launchers have been destroyed despite Israel still under constant attack from err Iranian missiles, Trump depending on the Israeli news blackout.
Below is a graph showing the Iranians still able to maintain a constant launch rate though reports say the daily number is increasing as of this last week.
The Iranians say most of their missiles and launchers are made and stationed underground and the US has had no real effect on their stockpile. A graph below shows a controlled, steady, and looking like a sustainable stream of missiles from Iran.
Trump, and the markets are starting to disbelieve the most powerful man in the world.
As Chris posted in the News thread the futures oil price is drifting away from the spot price, meaning there is a growing consensus price will be higher in the near future and you’ll need to pay up if you want to secure your supply.
More on the oil markets in the Duran video posted below.
Reports say the UK could see inflation explode to 10% within weeks, that could lead to the government hiking interest rates at the next central bank meeting if not before, the era of rate cuts is well and truly over.
Meanwhile Trump, instead of real negotiations (not the bullshit fantasy ones he's always talking about) is busy blowing up Iran's bridges.
So there's that.
Long holiday weekend for the west so markets closed which is the usual time for Trump to attack (lessen market impact) so possible big move coming and then the usual announcement of successful negotiations (with ghosts) on Monday, or maybe Tuesday as Monday is still part of the Easter holiday period.

"Only the price on the chart can show the entrance to the deal..."
3 days ago I saw a report that the Pentagon had said that US planes were now operating over Iran but was a bit sceptical and thought it might be a fake story as I couldn’t see a second source so forgot about it.
Now there are 3 planes reported downed actually over Iran, an F-35 (not confirmed by the US), an F-15 and an A-10 Warthog (in all, 1 pilot still missing).
This might sound troubling for Iran but is more troubling for the US.
Trump claimed that the US had destroyed all of Iran’s air defence capability which is a tall order. True, air defence needs a radar in open air but they are small and can be mobile, and can also to their advantage shoot down planes far easier than missiles.
On top of which the Iranians can get more from China or Russia if needed just as the Ukrainians have from the west in their conflict with Russia.
But the main point is that these are not the planes that Iran is worried about, these plans are battlefield plans but Iran has no intention of meeting the US on a battlefield.
The planes Iran is worried about are the huge B-52 bombers capable of carpet bombing huge areas of their cities using the US’s infinite supply of huge dumb gravity bombs.
But the US must be worried too, the hit to the psyche of the US public watching an iconic B-52 being shot down will be epic.
The B-52s were delivered in numbers to the region from bases around the world in the build up to the conflict. But so far they have only been used to fire cruise missiles at specific targets from a stand-off position outside of Iranian air space.
And Hegseth has been sacking more generals in what looks to be developing as a situation where Hegseth is blaming woke culture in the military for the military not storming into suicide missions in the Gulf. Rumours flying around that they ‘need to turn the Gays of Hormuz back into the Straits of Hormuz’.
All very bewildering but there is a serious purge going on within the military during war time which is always a sign of real desperation. I suspect it won’t matter who replaces who, there will still be reluctance to carry out Hegseth’s moronic, suicidal orders that no doubt came directly from Trump.
And following Pam Bondi’s exit from the White House for not doing her job next on the list looks to be Tulsi Gabbard for trying but not being allowed to do hers. Trump famously said he doesn’t do intel briefings and never listens to Gabbard who seemed to be one of the few on the Trump team who actually spoke sense.
Trump meanwhile is gunning for $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon (probably helped their decision to start flights over Iran). Included in the 1.5 trill budget is an order for 41 new warships, presumably so they can sit 1000 km outside the Straits too.
‘No new wars’ Trump has doubled defence spending while telling the US that the central govt should not be responsible for stuff like child care and medicare, that should be each state’s own responsibility he says.

But the US losses seem to have been enough to stop further flights over Iran yesterday except for search and rescue attempts to find the missing airman.
Having lost multiple aircraft in attacks over Iran, Trump and the Israelis go on to attack Iran's nuclear power plant and petrochemical plants.
Trump also reiterated the upcoming expiry of his previous 10 day deadline saying he will rain down hell on the Iranians on Monday.
In response Iranian drones and missiles attacked Kuwaiti oil installations.
Trump's actions are guaranteeing 20% of the world's oil supply is not just disrupted but will be closed down for years to come.
The narcissistic moron is going to plunge the world into an economic depression that will make COVID look like a tea party and will last a decade.
Trump really is working for the globalist elite after all.
Reminder too that all the Dems are 100% behind this war, not a murmur of objection from Congress, everything is fine.
Same from the Europeans, barely a whisper.
Up next are food and fuel shortages with the inflation and deindustrialization that automatically goes with that.
When they said there’s going to be a great reset they weren't fucking around. But don't worry, although you'll end up owning nothing you'll be happy, apparently.
Presumably that'll be after you've been through the re-education camp.
