Zelensky says a categoric no to the US plan.

Russia also says no.

Trump talks about an amended plan/deal (instead of walking away), doesn't seem to realise the Kellogg plan is dead.

EU/UK can't understand why only Zelensky wants to talk to them.

Mertz says he couldn't possibly accept the US proposal in spite of the fact he's not being asked to because it's nothing to do with him anyway.

Zelensky lays one of his own on Trump's desk (an ultimatum that is). Believed to offer the US MIC a $15 billion investment in exchange for some missiles.

Rutte says the ball is now very firmly back in Russia's court - again.

Confused? You won't be after this week's episode of SOAP.

Interesting that 2 items of the Kellogg plan granted to Russia that which they never actually asked for, and don't really care about.

They're a concession for avoiding that which Russia does need, but aren't in the US proposal.

Russia never asked for sanctions to be lifted. Putin told businesses months ago not to expect it which was a relief to the many businesses who stepped into the shoes of the western firms who walked out.

The second was the de jure recognition of Russia's de facto control of Crimea. Putin doesn't care, they got it, no one is takin it away from them, so that's that.

Zelensky for some strange reason is finding it impossible to enforce his demands from a losing position.

So he's demanding someone else enforce his demands for him, but no one's stepping up.

So he really has no choice but to back down.

But he'll avoid that at any cost (money, lives, territory) for as long as he can because when he does he knows it's all over for him personally.

Putin just needs to keep going as is.

Trump's in it up to his neck with hands and feet tied and doesn't know how to get out. It's consuming all his and his team's time and energy and they still haven't realised it's a dead end.

Trump's deluded himself into thinking he's the mediator and not actually one of the main belligerents. He keeps saying it's not his war, he should prove it.

He should have either started WW3 or just walked away - 3 months ago.

The EU/UK/Ukraine counter proposal to the US.

Totally dependant on the US because the EU/UK/Ukr are themselves far too weak to fulfil their own demands – seriously.

It is stunning that the losing side of a war demands the surrender of the winning side, and being too weak to actuate these demands, means someone else has to do it for them.

Our glorious leaders would rather see WW3 than admit their ridiculous plans and schemes have failed totally.

None of the demands of their 'peace proposal' has any chance of being fulfilled, at all, ever. The level of delusional arrogance needed to make these demands in the first place is staggering.

Ukraine is ready to start talks with Russia on the issue of territories with participation of the US and Europe once a ceasefire is in place;

(Russia will not agree to a ceasefire happening first)

Europe proposes negotiating territorial issues in the Ukrainian context, starting from the contact line after the ceasefire.

(no, Rus)

Europe and Ukraine demand US security guarantees in response to Washington’s peace proposal, similar to NATO’s Article 5;
(no, US)

They offer gradual easing of sanctions imposed on Russia since 2014 after peace is achieved, but threaten to reinstate them the peace deal is broken;

(Rus don't actually care about the sanctions)

Europe wants the US to take the lead in monitoring observance of the ceasefire;

(no, US)

Ukraine should have no restrictions on its armed forces and on deployment, arming and operations of foreign forces on the Ukrainian territory;

(no, Rus)

Europe wants post-war reconstruction for Ukraine, including at the expense of Russian assets that should remain frozen until "Russia compensates damage to Ukraine."

(no, Rus)

Anyway, the US is not interested in taking on these roles, they're looking to disengage not commit to decades of peace keeping. Though that won't happen because Zelensky will find a way to reignite the hot war after he's rearmed.

Not only that but the US is not an innocent bystander here, it's one of the main active belligerents in the conflict, now they're supposed to be monitoring and policing a ceasefire – seriously?

Clearly there will be no agreement. Trump keeps pretending that a deal is close but obviously it's not.

So the Russian army is going to roll on, they expect their summer offensive to take the remaining parts of the Donbass after which is open country right up to the Dnieper river. An offensive in the Sumy region will push up to the Dnieper in the north giving Russia 4 more oblasts on top of the 4 they already occupy.

That could possibly be the limit of a Russian advance, they would then have a substantial buffer zone behind a natural defensible border (the river). Putin is definitely not interested in west Ukraine, there is nothing there that Russia could want.

The Ukrainian cities on the west bank of the river would all wither and die without the resources of east Ukraine that has traditionally fed their industries.

West Ukraine has no major industry so all that would be left of Ukraine would be an impoverished agricultural rump state of no interest to the EU or NATO.

Russia will have defeated a million strong NATO army and gained an extra 300km buffer zone in the Ukrainian corridor traditionally used by the west whenever they've wanted to invade the Russians.

Added bonus of the extra 300km also gives more time to intercept NATO missiles fired at Moscow. Blinken had told Lavrov they would put their missiles wherever they wanted (as in right on the Russian border), but apparently not.

EU, UK, Ukraine reject Trump plan, Russia supports Trump peace efforts
