Trump is pretending he can mediate between two warring parties while continuing to be the principle backer to one of them. It's just not going to work.
Given that the NYT has let the cat out of the bag by confessing, to anyone who didn't already know, this is America's war against Russia, Ukraine is nothing more than a proxy.
Therefore Trump could "swiftly end" the conflict all by himself, simply stop continuing to enable it.
Main War Goals of the two main force controllers:
USA
- Get Ukraine into NATO with it's accompanying military bases and US nukes.
- Regime change in Moscow.
Russia
- Keep Ukraine out of NATO with it's accompanying military bases and US nukes.
- Regime change in Kiev (denazification).
We keep being told that Russia could end the war tomorrow by just leaving Ukraine, but then what would stop the US from moving their nukes onto the Russian border as per the original plan - nothing.
Putin's not going to turn his back on an obvious existential threat to Russia.
And there's no point in Trump threatening Putin anymore, Putin set out Russia's goals very clearly from the start, and just as clearly, they are well on their way to achieving them, regardless of all that the US and western powers have done to try to stop them.
