the current enemy is uniting former historical enemies,
at least at the moment... And Zelenski is looking for support
e.g. in Canada where there is a large Ukrainian diaspora.
By the way, during WW2 some Ukrainians served in Waffen SS
and some (more) in the Soviet Red Army.

Lavrov’s comments at the UN are the toughest to have come from Russia yet.
The FM has finally come out and said what onlookers not drugged by Western agitprop already knew was the reality: Moscow will settle NATO's proxy war in Ukraine not by negotiations but on the battlefield -- where Russia holds a decisive advantage. There will be no return of captured Ukrainian territory.
Lavrov also reiterated the bigger picture: that the clash was one between the predatory, neocolonial order of the West and a new multipolar paradigm in which mutual respect and win-win cooperation would prevail. His view is almost universally shared throughout the Global South.
