The Armed Forces of Ukraine defend the basic democratic values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, respect for human rights, transparency, openness and mutual respect from the authoritarian, invasive, totalitarian and xenophobic values of the terrorist state of the nazi totalitarian political regime in the russian federation - rashizm, which is based on the traditions of russian chauvinism and imperialism, the practices of the communist regime of the ussr and national socialism.
Daily long-term devotion to democratic values and self-sacrificing willingness to protect European values proves that Ukraine is Europe, and Ukraine's place is in #EU and #NATO.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are grateful for the unprecedented support of the EU in these difficult times of trials and the daily approach of Ukraine's victory for the common European future and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
We are grateful to EU for constantly standing on the side of Ukraine for over 30 years of Independence and before and steadfastly supporting the Ukrainian people and dissidents during the totalitarian communist soviet regime, and especially in the last 9 years - in support of sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and territorial waters.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine thank EU for the long-term, systematic and multidimensional support and effective assistance in reforming and increasing the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for the material and technical assistance provided, the organized and conducted collective and individual training of Ukrainian military personnel, the training of sergeant corps, cadets, chaplains, psychologists, support for veterans, wounded and children of fallen military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and as part of the "United Multinational Training Group - Ukraine", "Multinational Joint Coordination Committee on Military Cooperation and Defence Reform", and now also in the "Consultative Group on Defence of Ukraine" on path of effective resistance to aggression of the russian federation.
This support of EU in security matters provides the necessary tools to build capacity, increase capabilities and achieve maximum compatibility with the forces of the Alliance not only for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but also in general for the democratic Euro-Atlantic strategic development of Ukraine on its way to full integration into NATO and the EU and contributes to establishing stability and security in Europe and the world.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are sincerely grateful to all citizens of EU for your open, sincere hearts and homes for millions of Ukrainian women and children who have found refuge in EU. Thanks to this, during a full-scale russian invasion, the civilian population of Ukraine in EU is protected from numerous war crimes committed by the russian military: murder and maiming, recruitment and exploitation, rape and other forms of sexual violence, attacks on civilian infrastructure, hospitals, schools and universities, kidnappings , denial of access to humanitarian aid, russification, forced deportation to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or to the russian federation and obtaining russian citizenship.
Thank you that, thanks to your nationwide care and support, Ukrainian children in EU are spared the inhuman suffering that the ruscist horde of terrorist invaders condemned them to after the invasion of Ukraine!
Thanks to EU and your kindness, Ukrainian children live in a world that does not know pain, violence and war! The Armed Forces of Ukraine are fighting to return peace to the homes of Ukrainians as soon as possible and reunite separated families.
May 9 - Europe Day
After the end of the Second World War, European countries began to think about the principles of political cooperation and economic cooperation. Finally, on May 9, 1950, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, took the initiative to establish joint coordination and control of heavy industry in Europe. He suggested the development of common policy principles to achieve solidarity in this particular field.
On May 9, 1950, at 6 o'clock in the evening, when the layout of the next day's newspapers was almost finished in Paris, an event occurred that stopped the printing presses and completely changed the already agreed press headlines. Today, those columns are a valuable exhibit for museums - because they perpetuate the birth of a great idea, the idea of European unity.
The European Coal and Steel Community was supposed to be the path to the implementation of the Schuman Plan. According to Schumann's idea, France, Germany and other European countries were to transfer the management of coal and steel production to a single body. As a result of such unification, the key branches of the military industry were also to come under joint control, which would make it impossible for a separate country to prepare for a new war.
As a result, on April 18, 1951, the Treaty on the Creation of the European Coal and Steel Community was signed in Paris. It was first ratified by six countries: France, Germany, Italy and the Benelux countries - Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The organization was open to other European countries.
It is now considered that the Schumann Declaration officially started the process of European integration. That is why Europe Day is celebrated in the EU on May 9.
The basic values of the EU are worldview principles recorded in Art. 2 of the Treaty on the European Union: "The Union is founded on the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities. These values are common to the Member States in a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men prevail."
Implementation of the basic values of the EU is one of the criteria for joining the Union, as stated in Article 49: "Any European State which respects the values referred to in Article 2 and is committed to promoting them may apply to become a member of the Union. The European Parliament and national Parliaments shall be notified of this application."
The Council of Europe celebrates this holiday on May 5, the European Union on the 9th. The first recognition of Europe Day took place in the Council of Europe in 1964. Later, the European Union started its own European Day to commemorate the Schuman Declaration of 1950, which is why it is also called "Schuman Day".
The representation of the European Commission in Ukraine appeared in Kyiv almost immediately after the declaration of independence in 1993.
The music of the European anthem is taken from the Ninth Symphony, which Ludwig van Beethoven wrote in 1823. In the final part of the musical work, Beethoven set to music "Ode to Joy", which was written in 1785 by Friedrich von Schiller. In this poem, the idea of the brotherhood of peoples, shared by Beethoven, was echoed. In 1972, "Ode to Joy" became the anthem of the Council of Europe. The famous conductor Herbert von Karajan was commissioned to write three instrumental arrangements - with a solo for piano, for wind instruments and for symphony orchestra. Without words, in the universal language of music, the anthem expresses the ideals of freedom, peace and solidarity on which Europe stands. In 1985, the anthem was approved by the presidents and heads of government of the EU countries as the official anthem of the European Union.

The EU flag is a blue background and a circle of 12 golden stars. In this way, the flag contains threefold perfection: blue is the color of the sky, water, spirituality, and wisdom. The circle is an ideal form, a symbol of eternity, the universe and equality, 12 is the number of completeness.
The visa-free regime with the EU allowed Ukrainians to travel more. Since the beginning of the visa-free regime, Ukrainians have made more than 50 million trips to EU countries.
