If the US does not stop now then it's own strategic defence will become severely compromised and with so many other enemies about it cannot afford that.

Of course the EU/UK became severely compromised a long time ago and have been relying on the US ever since.

What are the types of weapons that have been stopped? All missiles, rockets and artillery shells – so just all the most important stuff then.

No wonder the west and Ukraine were so desperate for Russia to agree a ceasefire.

Note that Macron was pushed by western leaders to phone call Putin and ask again for a ceasefire earlier on Wednesday. Putin said thank you very much for your generous offer, but eh, no thanks.

US news outlets released the news of the sudden delivery stop later the same day (European pm, US am) which suggests the European leaders knew the US announcement was coming and were trying to get Putin to agree a ceasefire before it happened and stop the US needing to make it.

European leaders are very aware that there's very little chance that once stopped the weapons shipments will ever resume again or any new aid package be proposed, it will take YEARS for the US to rebuild it's stock pile, so this presumably marks the start of a permanent US pull out.

Reminder that the makers of Patriot missiles Raytheon said a couple of years ago that if they hired some extra workers they might be able to add an extra 60 missiles to the 550 total per year.

Trump calls Putin just days after Macron.

Word is that Macron is proud that his call to Putin was a 2 hour nuisance call in which he repeated all the old western tropes about how mean old Russia attacked poor li'll Ukraine for no reason, how it had nothing to do about NATO whatsoever, on and on.

He then said 'how about a ceasefire?'

Putin apparently replied explaining the root causes of the conflict and said no to the ceasefire as it had always been just a tactic to rearm in the past (not knowing the US no new weapons announcement coming).

After that announcement Trump calls Putin asking for him to agree a ceasefire. The early comments say Trump got the same reply as Macron. There is no word yet as to if Trump offered or threatened anything new to get agreement.

Trump is lining up a Israel/Hamas ceasefire and presumably was looking for a double win.

Contemporary western European leaders will never get Putin and will always hate him. Modern western leaders know the game.

The game is to promise anything in order to get elected, you then do whatever 'the money' tells you to do no matter how traitorous to your own country that might be. And when you get voted out, 'the money' gives you a great new job in some big international organisation with a huge salary for the rest of your life.

Simple, but Putin won't play, and that's why they hate him.


So what will happen in the conflict now?

Ukraine cannot survive without US missiles (especially Patriots), rockets and shells.

The fighting was only expected to last up to 6 months longer without a new aid package, but now, with the stopping of deliveries of the old one, that figure is probably down to 1 month.

Obviously Zelensky must agree terms now but the ultra nationalist Azov brigades and others have been building up their numbers and will not agree or participate with any kind of a surrender.

Ukraine IS going to be split apart, it's just a question of where, at the 4 eastern regions, at the Dnipro river, or Ukraine being completely fragmented with Russia taking 2/3rds and Ukraine's western neighbours picking over what's left.

Well done dickhead Kallas and her amazing diplomatic skills pushing China into an even more pro Russian stance than they were before when she was actually trying to do the opposite.

I guess that might be why European leaders really don't want her as their rep talking to the Russians (sarcasm++).

Reminder that the EU say they are not a party to the conflict while sending tanks and howitzers to Ukraine but say China is breaking sanctions they never agreed to for sending duel use items such as washing machines and laptops to Russia.

While all eyes are on Russia's massive missile and drone attacks of at least equal importance is the increasing speed of the Ukrainian retreat across the battlefronts.
