These negotiations are leaving out the Europeans and making demands on the Ukrainians to make a peace based on what Russia has already won on the battlefield.
Big deals are being discussed and there's nothing the EU, UK or Zelensky can do about it.
The readouts from the 90 minute call between Trump and Putin yesterday confirm that the Europeans and Starmer and Zelensky are being shut out of the peace/ceasefire talks.
And a good thing too. None of them have anything positive to contribute, none of them want any deal. It's in their interests for the conflict to continue and so their attendance at any negotiations would only serve to delay and entangle.
The EU and UK want to keep the US in Europe. They need the US close by because the EU & UK are sinking.
They have no resources, no manufacturing, no industry, no military, no collateral. Their only plan for the future is to spend decades building a huge new military industrial complex with money they don't have and for a war that doesn't exist.
Zelensky needs the US to stay because without the constant flow of cash everything in Ukraine shuts down and Zelensky becomes a hunted man.
Trump recently restarted the aid flow after a brief pause but that's the last of Biden's last package, and Trump has made no mention of going to Congress to seek another one.
That explains his sense of urgency for negotiations, dumping the EU/UK and Ukraine from the talks while pushing Putin towards a deal which will inevitably be a good one for Russia.
Without a new aid package Ukraine will collapse anyway. Even if there is not a military collapse before the money runs out, there certainly will one be after. If the US money stops then Ukrainian wages and pensions don't get paid.
A quick deal with Putin to stop the fighting and the US can walk away and leave the humanitarian aid and clean up of what's left of Ukraine for the EU and UK to sort out.
Maybe Trump might get to dig up some minerals but I don't think he really cares at this stage.
Job Done.
The End.
