Tomorrow is the planned meeting between the Russians and the Ukrainians in Abu Dhabi though there is no confirmation yet that the Ukrainian delegation will attend.
Zelensky has said the meeting might have to be postponed due to conflict between the US and Iran and so the energy ceasefire should be extended as well.
The point of the meeting was for Ukraine to respond to the Russian
and US proposal to halt fighting in exchange for Ukraine handing over the Donbas region to Russia but Zelensky already said no a few days ago.
Much of Ukraine lost power and water overnight, officials said there was a major technical malfunction to the already weakened main grid.
Meanwhile after the lull on the battlefront the Russians are pushing forward again in the Zaparozia region and in Kupiansk.
There is also general expectation that the Russians are about to stage a huge missile attack tomorrow night at the end of the 1 week limited ceasefire.
Zelensky was also claiming there was a major Russian troop build up of 80,000 in the Donbas region though Zelensky often makes such claims around peace talks.
An interesting new development is the Russians using Starlink over Ukraine for First Person View (FPV) drones. The internet connection is allowing precision targeting several hundreds of kilometers into Ukrainian territory.
The Ukrainians are complaining to Elon Musk but I don’t think they want him to turn off Starlink over Ukraine as he has done over Russia, the AFU are totally dependent on it for their comms.
The FPV drones have been targeting radar units and F-16s, that radar units are being targeted is one reason why the Ukrainians think a large drone and missile attack is coming.

2034Not sure what’s happening to the peace process except of course there is no peace process, talks on the 4th of Feb not confirmed, peace is not actually on the agenda, it never was since Zelensky was talked out of the 2022 Istanbul peace agreement with the Russians.
That was a fatal mistake for Zelensky and Ukraine. The country will not only never be the same, there is a serious probability it won’t survive.
Putin knows that to destroy any appeal of NATO for Ukraine all he needs to do is take Odessa blocking Ukrainian access to the Black Sea. After that what’s left of Ukraine is worth nothing to NATO.
A big NATO naval base on the Black Sea has long been a goal of western Europe and the US and was always the real driver behind the conflict, from there they could control Russia’s trade with the rest of the world and so dictate terms to any Russian government.
Sebastopol was the prime target (as far back as 1853) but after that was lost in this latest attempt then Odessa would do.
Now there is no hope of either but there is no point in Russia stopping the war until they themselves control Odessa to make sure it can ever be used by NATO to threaten Russia, and without Odessa the rest of Ukraine will be a hopeless rump state with no sea port.
In his time as president Zelensky has devastated the economy, devastated the country, devastated the population and devastated the future demographics.
What will be left of Ukraine will not be able to sustain a large population, there will be no point in those living abroad returning.
It didn’t have to be this way, if only Zelensky had taken the deal on the table in April 2022, many said at the time this was the best deal he was going to get because if the war really got going everything after could only be worse, and it is.
It’s astonishing that some still think it’s better to fight on, real Hitler thinking that is. They are of course just making it easier for the Russians to achieve the goal of denying Ukraine for the West to use as a base from which to control Russia.
Once that possibility is negated NATO and Western Europe and the EU and the US will turn their backs on Ukraine and walk away leaving nothing but a ruin behind them, exactly the outcome people like myself were always trying to warn against and wishing to avoid.
