Ukraine is being plunged into chaos. Major cities with no power or water supply, empty villages due to mass mobilisation, over-flowing cemeteries, a bankrupted economy totally dependent on international donations, Zeklensky promoting known gangster criminals into the intel agencies to maintain public order.

And yet still Ukraine's keyboard warriors say ‘fight on’, you can be absolutely sure none of them are still actually living in Ukraine.

The mayor of Kiev says that in January alone 600,000 people have left the capital and the city is heading for a humanitarian disaster.

There are also reports of fighting within the ruling elite, the party in power and the Ukrainian oligarchy. The game is nearly up and debts and promises must be settled.

And Zelensky has decided not to be at Davos, there is only one reason Zelensky would miss out on a prime potential fund raiser. There are no funds to grab.

Trump has refused to meet him and the EU can't steal the Russian frozen assets off Belgium let alone Russia.

There is no real money going to Ukraine and none in the pipeline. I think March was said to be when it would all collapse if no one could be found to stump up the tens of billions needed.

Reminder that Russia is not at war, this is a limited ‘Special Military Operation’ in which Russia is devoting 7% of GDP to its defence budget per annum. A full war economy would be over 20% which would be sustainable for around 5 years for most countries, 7% is sustainable for decades.

In Davos meanwhile Trump says a deal can be done with Zelensky but he's not talking about money or security guarantees or anything else he's just talking about how much land Zelensky must hand over to Putin.

Putin on the other hand must be thinking of next steps, the capture of the whole of the Donbas is now certain, he doesn't need to be given it. So will he now also demand Odessa next or Kharkov?

Things are much easier for Putin now that Trump seems to have given up on the whole peace prize business.

Though Witkoff did just announce that he is still going to Moscow there remains uncertainty as to why.

On the battlefronts the pace seems to be picking up after a holiday and very bad weather lull. The AFU are generally continuing to be pushed backward across the whole frontline except in the 2 areas where they are trying to make gains in counteroffensives, in Kupiansk city and just starting in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukrainian YouTube channels with over a million subscribers are telling their listeners that Russian generals are lying to Putin about taking over cities like Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. The problem is though that independent mappers who rely on videos released by both the Ukrainian and Russian army show differently.

Solution, just don’t look.

When the mappers use Ukrainian video showing where they are attacking the Russians is a fair clue as to where the Russians actually are, but if it doesn’t suit your channel's narrative just don’t look, simple. A million subscribers produce a healthy financial income so don’t want that compromised after all.

So Witkoff will make another dash to Moscow to try to horse trade a deal with Putin only to discover yet again that Putin’s not for horse trading.

The US these days is just a one trick pony (sticking with the equestrian metaphors) diplomacy doesn’t come into it.

At some point maybe the west will realise that it’s the Russians who need a security guarantee not the Ukrainians, they just need a peace treaty with Russia.


Meanwhile the new Ukrainian defence minister says that Ukraine really needs to be killing 50,000 Russians a month, yeah, ok. You can tell he’s new on the job because he doesn't know that the AFU has been trying and failing to do that for the last 4 years ffs.

Interesting update from George Beebe, former head of CIA's Russian dept, on the new direction the US is taking in geopolitics.

Firstly on Europe, he describes Europe's failure in their relations with the U.S. and Russia, and China. This is why Europe is failing as a global entity and power.

The US needs to cut Europe away as an expensive, dependent dead weight.

To be of any use to the US Europe needs to be a strong independent fourth pole in a multipolar world with the US, Russia and China.

The 4 poles can't be just about war but need to coexist with mutually beneficial relations.

Europe is currently going in the opposite direction trying to return to the past and totally dependent on US military muscle to try to achieve it.

More on Zelensky at Davos. Trump ordered him to come at the last minute. Zelensky thought it was for him to sign the deal he'd been touting on a $800 billion military aid and reconstruction package for Ukraine over 10 years.

Imagine Zelensky's disappointment to discover Trump actually just wanted Zelensky to agree to hand over the Donbass.

Being rudely awoken out of his unicorns and pixy dust wet dream was why he then gave the very angry, fiery speech to the Davos crowd insulting everyone, including them, for which they gave him a standing ovation.

If nothing else, it should have been that to make him realise he'd been actually living in a dream come nightmare these last 4 years.


And NATO, the European leaders are tripping over each other trying to please Trump and agree to all his demands because they know that NATO is at risk if they don’t and they’ve just spent the last 12 years deliberately pissing off Putin.

Without the US in NATO then NATO is nothing and they would all be totally defenceless.

Even with the warning on defence spending from Trump in his first term and then the promise to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP nothing has changed, their economies are a catastrophe, earnings keep plummeting while spending, especially on welfare, keeps accelerating.

NATO is finished, the Europeans have realised that Article 5 is just a piece of paper and is now of no real worth. Trump doesn’t want nor needs anything to do with NATO and certainly will not allow the US to be dragged into the middle of yet another European war.
