HERES ANOTHER ONE THAT TRADES TL BREAKS AND HAS AUTO ADAPTIVE PARAMS I ADDED THE SET FILE TOO. FEEDBACK WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED PLEASE

12Yes, ofc i know:)addtoitfx wrote: Sun Nov 09, 2025 12:47 pm THANK YOU FOR THE FEEDBACK. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TEST PARAM RANGES IN MT5 STRAT TESTER? USE THAT TO FIND OPTIMIZED CONFIG FOR A SPECIFIC SYMBOL/TF. THIS IS NOT FOR RETAIL TRADERS SO NO BELLS AND CHART VISUALS. FINISHING DEV STAGE
Will try to find better setup

Re: Need help testing a profitable strategy
14Hi addtoitfx,
To start I am no expert in testing, writing code or EA's and I only have intermediate knowledge around testing strategies in MT4/MT5.
I am 100% sure there are numerous people on here who are much better poised and more technically sound with better skill sets than me to test your EA more efficiently.
However I thought I would use this as a perfect opportunity to try and learn and help develop my testing skills and give you my feedback on what you kindly provided.
In terms of matching your results of 30k return in 5 months with 3% drawdown I have not been able to get close to that in terms or risk. However using the date range of this year to date so 11 months using a starting balance of 100k I have been able to produce a net profit of 301,377 using higher risk but with a high drawdown.
Summary
EA used - Bradys 4th Quarter Comeback - with the accompanying SET file as default.
Date Range 01.01.25 - 11.11.25
Symbol used XAUUSD - obvious choice for me I mainly only trade gold so I am biased on using this symbol
Parameters: I used the HTF structure Filter with HTF method set as BOS/CHoCH - optimal choice for an SMC supply and demand strategy
I then varied the Trading Time (1m/3m/5m) across various HTF Structure (5m/10m/15m/30m/60m)
Everything else was left as per the SET file
These tests were then run on the emphasis of finding the greatest net profit I did not take drawdown or anything else into consideration
Other than Trading Time of 3m and HTF of 60 the best result came from TT = 5m and HTF of 30m as you set within the SET file,
So then what I did (using same parameters as above) was use all HTF Methods (swing, ZigZag,Leg, BOS/CHoCH, Trailing) across all various Trendline methods.
There were 2 that stood out for greatest return which were HTF Method = BOS/CHoCH & TrendLine Method = DTTV2 and HTF Method = Leg and Trendline Method = DTTV1
My bias is BOS/CHoCH so decided that this would be the method I would investigate further and tried various parameters and from my perspective the following provided the best results:
TrendlineMethod =2
HTFDetectionMethod=3
RiskPercent =1
TradesPerDirection=5
Everything else as per SET File
I attach the results for you to view and don't get me wrong the drawdown is high, but I do tend to trade aggressively and take bigger risks. Plus GOLD is hitting ATH after ATH on a long term upward trend so its easy to get good results with most EAs on this symbol at the moment!
Now this may help you or may not and I am sure there are others who can provide better feedback, but regardless I actually enjoyed doing this and it was a good learning curve. I intend to undertake further testing using the Param ranges over the weekend so hope to provide some more comprehensive feedback.
I think that is in the spirit of Forex Station and what it represents i.e. people helping each other, learning and trying to become better traders/coders and develop their understanding.
So even if this does not help you the way you wanted I want to say thank you for providing something that actually gave me enthusiasm to use the Strategy Tester correctly and help develop my knowledge and skillset testing strategies!

Re: Need help testing a profitable strategy
15Ok so have completed some more testing based on param ranges in order to get more results though using the core parameters as defined in my initial analysis and can confirm as follows:
Settings:
Symbol: XAUUSD
Timeframe M5
Date Range 01.01.25 - 12.11.2025
Delays: Zero Latency, ideal execution
Modelling: Every Tick
Deposit: 100000
Leverage: 1:100
Optimization: Slow complete algorithm
Inputs
Trendline Method: DTT v2
Auto Adaptive Parameters: True
HTF Timeframe Start 30 minutes, 1 step, Stop 1 Hour
Volume Type: Start Explosive or Better, Stop Super Explosive Only
WAE Percentile Threshold: Start 90, 1 step, Stop 99
WAE Lookback Bars: Start 200, 50 step, Stop 400
Risk per trade % Start 0.25, 0.25 step, Stop 1
Max trades 5
Trading Timeframe 5 Mins
Total Scenarios Tested 3200
Results (Screenshot of inputs included below)
Using the following 7 criteria's the best results are as follows:
Best Profit & Expected Payoff 528,803 & 259.72644
Overview- this is aggressive high risk trading which is very risky to apply to a volatile instrument such as gold - though does show that in the right conditions good profit can be made though with a higher DD of 25% is it worth the risk? I did manual intervention i.e, set the trade direction in line with the overall HTF trend (4hour plus) though keeping the HTF parameter the same - something to consider - i.e. test weekly timeframes with the trade direction set as per the HTF at the time -which I think could prevent some losses. Unfortunately I have not had time to do this but if I get a chance I will attempt to!
Best Profit Factor 1.76758
Overview - less aggressive trading with a good return though still has a high DD of 17.34 - which again shows in the right conditions good profit can still be made with a respectable DD under 20% but still higher depending on overall trading strategy and risk appetite.
Drawdown 5.69
Overview - as expected much lower profit than the higher risk trades but with a more a manageable drawdown that won't cause panic attacks by seeing your overall capital down 15%+ as per the 2 previous results! With a return of 50% of investment its a very good low risk option for a good return - greed can get the better of many traders that can result in big losses as you never know what the market can do.
Sharpe Ratio 4.11667
Overview - very similar to the best Drawdown params - slight increase in return of 3450.71 with only a 0.27 increase of drawdown so also a good return for low risk capital
Recovery Factor - 5.87825
Overview - again very similar to the Drawdown and Sharpe Ratio results it creates a good return for lower risk, if you look at the parameters across the 3 there are very similar all 0.25% risk per trade, Waddah Attar Explosion Threshold/Lookback is very close in terms of numbers so any of these would be a good choice - though as the best profit return in terms of profit is the Sharpe Ratio example I would go with that
Allstar
To me this represents the in-between params from the higher risk results to the lower risk. This does not win the best category in any of the above forementioned aspects but isn't as high risk as the aggressive setting but gives a 100% return on investment if you a little bit more risk adverse. IF not that any of the above params would work.
So yes you have a very profitable strategy within the EA and there are various params that can be used to return a good profit on capital investment. As with the higher risk greater return examples historic trading results can never be guaranteed in the present or future, its what makes the markets so frustrating and appealing at the same time.
Therefore even with the lower risk options there is a potential of 50% return at a risk of just 5/6% drawdown at 0.25% risk per trade which is a good option to take. I am not sure what your risk appetite is but looking at some of the examples of the Nostradamus EA that you posted I see you have been able to get the DD down to 2.02 with much better results overall than I was able to achieve with the Tom Brady so my results may not be any good to you anyway!
I think I will also try do some additional testing focusing using the criteria of the best results though specifically test the SL an TP params - I have run it live on a demo account and have seen some good profits on trades get wiped out to breakeven using the standard inputs as per the provided SET file so think there is some more potential to improve the results there and will test this next.
After that I hope to move onto the Nostradamus across currency/indices though this will take some time due to work/family commitments but will get round to it.
