How to determine the temperature of the air by the chirping of crickets? There is an Amos Dolber law that establishes the relationship between air temperature and the chirping speed of crickets.

According to this law, it is possible to determine the air temperature if it is between 5 °C and 30 °C.
To do this, calculate the number of sounds per minute and use the formula suggested by Dolber:

T C = 10 + ( 5 ∗ ( N 60 − 40 ) / 36 ).

Here, TC is the temperature in degrees Celsius, and N60 is the number of sounds per minute.

A simplified method is to count the number of chirps in 8 seconds and add 5: T C = 5 + N 8.

It should be borne in mind that the chirping rate of field crickets does not reliably correlate with temperature — it depends on other factors such as age and mating success.
