The Problem with 99.9% uptime VPS

1
I rented a VPS a while ago, like every good algorithmic trader does and I had a lot of problems
first sometimes I could not login to the VPS for some reason, maybe it was on my part but it was really frightening to have an algo running amok
secondly it was crashing...A LOT... they will "guarantee" uptime but what they do is simply refund partially some money you paid this month if the VPS crashes...
that's better than nothing but I dont want it to crash, PERIOD
Often it would reboot on its own, making the trades run amok again ! (I know there are some ways to restart MT4 automatically at the start of Windows, but...)

so now, I have a laptop at my home, and this is replacing my VPS.
1) I'm sure I can access it all the time
2) I'm sure it's cheaper on the long run (I had the laptop from previously) Think about it : 12 months at $30 and you got yourself a laptop, and
3) it doesn't crash !
only problem the internet might go down, but then you can set up an alarm, and close the trades on your mobile phone if necessary ! and VPS internet goes down all time time or even more

so I do not use VPS anymore for those reasons

Many brokers will give you a free VPS if you trade a few lots per month..... but can I ask why you guys would like to use a VPS??? For your EA's to run in the background?? Or for notifications??

well if you have EAs running live & you don't want to put it on your main PC, you need an alternate PC that will run 24/24

and because in some countries internet and power isn't reliable, a VPS is necessary.

Hello !

Where do you buy your VPS ? And at what price ?

I'm an IT admin so i need to have a lab to test several things. For a full server with 32 Go RAM ; SSD 500Gb i pay 23+1.80 € (for an extra IP) a month and 250Mb/s internet speed. I have a proxmox on it with several differents servers.

If i run my terminal on it i have a 30ms ping (depends on which broker i use), maybe you can look at this ?

I use OVH Eco Bare metal servers and i had no problem at all with it. Of course you need to set up your infrastructure by yourself but i can help you with that if you want

Never had a problem to log on it or anything.

If you have questions do not hesitate :)

Not tooting my own horn here but my main broker has always given me a free VPS as long as I trade a minimum of 4 lots per month. The VPS they give me is with New York City servers (https://newyorkcityservers.com/) and I don't use it much apart from testing out push notification signals on our indicators.

Booting it up is slow and MT4 gets jammed if it's a packed system being loaded for testing but it always works in the end and sends notifications at least 3 seconds before my local machine does.

Browsing the internet on it is like lightning if I can manage get a browser loaded.

It's never had a downtime since 2016. As in, any downtime!
