the reason being is that MTF is always delayed compared to a direct indicator with bigger period.

for instance in these pictures, I used a MTF MA of period 2 but on a daily MTF on a H1 chart
and I also added a simple MA of period 48 ((24 hours per day times period of MA = 24 x 2 = 48)
screenshot.588.jpg
screenshot.586.jpg
screenshot.587.jpg
and as you can see, the MTF is very delayed and late.

what I would do instead of using MTF features is to augment the period of the indicator by the same amount.

just multiply the period of your indicator by the number of bars inside a higher timeframe.
For example, instead of suing a MTF EMA of period 20 on a D1 Timeframe, use a MA of period 20x24 = 480

you will *always* have earlier signals than when using MTF

MTF is just removing information and making it thus making it less responsive
I don't see any advantage in using MTF

If you really need the "stepping" feature I would rahter recommend using a "step" indicator like the one below

I've been working on integrating my trading strategy into an Expert Advisor (EA) for better back testing. My strategy utilizes three indicators: MACD, TMA Centered Bands, and Gann HiLo activator bars. Here's a detailed overview of the trade logic:

Trade Logic
1. MACD as the Trend Filter:
Custom Settings: Fast EMA (65), Slow EMA (75), Signal Line (35).
Bullish Trend: The signal line (35) is above the zero line.
Bearish Trend: The signal line (35) is below the zero line.
Purpose: Determines overall market sentiment (bullish or bearish) and serves as the basis for opening long or short positions.

2. TMA Centered Bands:
Upper Band Breakout:

Look for instances where the closing price of a candle crosses above the upper TMA band.
Indicates potential overbought conditions or strong bullish momentum.
Can be interpreted as a potential sell signal or a caution against further upward movement.

Lower Band Breakout:

Identify situations where the closing price of a candle crosses below the lower TMA band.
Indicates potential oversold conditions or strong bearish momentum.
Can be interpreted as a potential buy signal or a caution against further downward movement.

3. Gann HiLo Activator Bars:

Buy Signal Conditions:

The closing price of the current candle crosses above the high value calculated by the Gann HiLo indicator.
The previous candle's closing price was below the high value.
Optional additional confirmation (e.g., slope of a moving average, volume).
Sell Signal Conditions:

The closing price of the current candle crosses below the low value calculated by the Gann HiLo indicator.
The previous candle's closing price was above the low value.

Issues I'm Facing
I've managed to write some code for the trade logic execution, but I'm encountering several issues:

Trade Calculation: The calculation for the lot size based on the percentage risk is not working correctly.
Backtesting Problems: The backtests are not producing the expected results.
Platform Context: The EA is running on an offline chart that uses PointO Bars.
I've attached the code I've written so far. The code compiles correctly, but some functions are not working as intended.I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions on how to get this EA working correctly, especially in terms of:

Correctly calculating lot sizes based on percentage risk.
Ensuring the trade logic executes as intended.
Improving the accuracy of back testing results.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Code: Select all

The original rules were clear:-Compute the rolling mean of High minus Low over the last 25 days;-Compute the IBS indicator: (Close - Low) / (High - Low);-Compute a lower band as the rolling High over the last 10 days minus 2.5 x the rolling mean of High mins Low (first bullet);-Go long whenever SPY closes under the lower band (3rd bullet), and IBS is lower than 0.3;-Close the trade whenever the SPY close is higher than yesterday's high. The logic behind this trading strategy is that the market tends to bounce back once it drops too low from its recent highs. The results shown above are from an improved strategy: better exit rule with dynamic stop losses. I created a full write-up with all its details here

Upon becoming profitable, traders should begin to think about the most advantageous income tax strategy to use. The written and signed statement in the above image is a redacted copy of my actual U.S. IRS Code Section 1256 Election. For income tax purposes in the U.S., forex profits and losses are lumped in with futures profits and losses in terms of tax treatment. As a default provision (where the taxpayer makes no election), IRS Code Section 988 will be applied to futures and forex profits and losses. Pursuant to Section 988, all such profits will be taxed as ordinary income and all such losses will be deductible as ordinary losses. However prior to the start of a trading/tax year, a forex and/or futures trader is allowed to opt out of Section 988 and into Section 1256.

Why did I elect into Section 1256? Because even if I had been scalping in 2022, I was entitled to a 60/40 split of profits. 60% of profits are treated as long-term capital gains, while 40% of profits are treated as short-term capital gains. In the U.S., the maximum long-term capital gains tax rate is 20%. So, that's a 20% or less tax rate applied to most of the profits and the ordinary tax rate (generally higher) applied to less of the profits. As a caveat, Section 1256 only allows a maximum of 3000 USD of total losses to be deducted.

Although the election must be made before any trade is placed within the tax year at issue, that election only need be memorialized internally. Whether a given taxpayer is a commodity pool operator or a sole proprietor (like most retail traders), it's a very good idea to draft, sign, date, and get witnessed, a formal statement. The above document can be used as a template for readily drafting such a statement. It's no coincidence that the above Election is dated December 31, 2021. Again, the Election need not be filed with any governmental agency, but the taxpayer should keep it safely stored in case of an IRS audit, etc. If the taxpayer files a tax return via software, that software will likey ask a simple question about electing out of 988 upon entering trading profits.

Essentially, a trader must estimate her/his likelihood of profitability in advance of any given trading/tax year. Obviously, this is much easier for a trader who is continuing to employ a profitable strategy from a prior year... or at least, trading a quantified and empirically tested strategy. Conversely, a trader who is not yet profitable has little incentive to opt into Section 1256. Of course, the IRS Standard Deduction must also be considered... especially by traders in lower ordinary tax brackets.
