It's always been speculative and it's future looks just as uncertain now as ever. Yes all the big central banks are looking to go digital which must have an impact on BTC in the future and BTC's continued lack of any kind of regulation was the main reason the SEC refused to allow BTC ETFs which kept hedge funds out of the market for a long time.

It's a curse of a thing to try and trade, pump and dumps, massive spreads on leveraged platforms, whales playing around for fun (eg Musk). A broker once reported that BTC differed from most other markets in that it has a massive majority of just one type of trade entry - breakout entries, which adds to the sudden price surges between periods of calm.
