Appreciate the quick turnaround! :Fire:

I think you got this right. There are some VERY slight differences, but you can see the patterns are the same.

I imagine the differences are due to slight deviations between the feed going into MT4 and TradingView. You can see this because MT4 has the US30 closed out at 32809.3 whereas TradingView has the US30 closed out at 32811.0.

mrtools wrote: Thu May 25, 2023 7:08 am In general when we use something smooth as input in oscillators, breakouts are better than reversals, you can see this with the stochastic and rsi.

So a simple approach could be buying when crossing over 0.8 and selling when crossing under 0.2.
I hope this is not seen as a criticism as I don't want to criticize at all.

You could use it the way the author originally intended, but I immediately saw a different use at first glance: Identifying tops and bottoms in a non-repainting way.

I need to experiment more with the settings and the overbought/oversold lines, but with the right adjustments this indicator may be on par with Chaos Visual Averages and Jurik PPO Laguerre.

More testing will be needed but I like how this indicator sometimes tends to stay in the overbought/oversold zone so you don't end up buying from a dip (or selling from a peak) too early.

This is an absolute strength difference averages zero based histogram. The difference is based on the difference between the smoothed bears and the smoothed bulls. Histogram has auto width capability. Absolute strength can be based on Rsi calculations, Stochastic calculations, or Adx calculations

Did this version, with the averages

I just realized this indicator wasn't calculated correctly.
It's pretty much just taking a Simple Moving Average and averaging it or "smoothing" it with the Averages. The lines barely change at all.
There's almost no visual difference between the basic, default SMA DPO and any of the exotic MA's on the list using the same period.
It needs to be using the Averages themselves in the equation to be detrended individually and not pretty much using the average of an average.

Thanks, looking into doing a correct Dpo but finding differences in interpretation of it, will post a corrected version once that is figured out.

Detrended Price Oscillator (Tradestation calculation)

This is using a Tradestation calculation version code shared by Mladen, the values are close to the same but mostly different with different averages.

PS: For the previously released version (uses different calculations), please see DPO indicator.

Morning @mrtools :),

Warm greetings from wet and windy Cape Town ;).

Mrtools, would you be so kind as to add alerts and arrows for when the histogram crosses the zero line, and AHTF to your latest updated version of this indicator?

Warmest regards,
BeatlemaniaSA

Indicator:

Oh, and a button would go down nicely as well :D. I'm currently testing it with the TDI indicator (which strangely enough does not have a button yet - see my request in the button thread). So I'd like to have them both in the same subwindow to save chart space ;)

Awesome! Thanks mrtools :). I've loaded it onto the charts and the button works great. However, with the alerts, I suspect that there may be something amiss. I have it on an H1 chart with the indicator set to current timeframe, but it's giving me an alert for an H4 timeframe.

See attached screenshot :)
