WASHINGTON —
A colonel of the Taiwan National Army promised to surrender to Beijing if the cross-strait war broke out because he was recruited by a retired officer. On Tuesday (November 22), the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office prosecuted the suspect for violating the National Security Law, the Banking Law, and the Corruption Regulations, seeking 12 years in prison.

According to the investigation of the Kaohsiung District Prosecutor's Office, Xiang Deen, the current Colonel and Chief Research Officer of the Operational Research and Development Office of the Taiwan Army Infantry Training Command, was recruited by retired officer Shao Weiqiang in 2019 while serving as the deputy brigade commander of the Army's 564th Armored Brigade. He signed a letter of commitment to surrender to Beijing in 1999, and took a group photo for the letter of surrender in military uniform. After that, he also assisted Shao Weiqiang in spying on the military situation of the national army under the pseudonym of "Lao Zhang". From then on, Xiang Deen received a monthly salary of NT$40,000 from Beijing, and his illegal income totaled NT$560,000 (approximately US$17,920).

"This case highlights the CCP's infiltration and absorption of Taiwan, its search for intelligence and secrets, and has posed a serious threat to Taiwan," Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense said Tuesday.

Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth: patiently bearing till he receive the early and latter rain.
Behold, we account them blessed who have endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and you have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is merciful and compassionate.
