I still have no clue on the upper limits of what size of the position that can be achieved. Sure you need a counterparty to your order but since the forex market is 3 trillion I think then I'm guessing almost anything is possible.

Yes many large brokers allow professional traders access to a Direct Market Access (DMA) platform where you have direct access to liquidity providers (the broker still gets their spread) and you also get level 2 data which is a real time order book showing the volume of pending orders at each price level on a price ladder.

Upper limits are quite high even for retail traders but are dependant on the amount of margin you need to hold in your account to open the trade. What usually happens before reaching any broker set limit of lot size is simply only getting your order partially filled before price has moved onto another level when price is moving quickly.
