Facebook drops 'likes' count - but only in Australia


First, it was Instagram and now the mother-ship Facebook is following suit and ditching the likes count.

Australia will be the first country in the world to trial the changes which start from today.

The Director of Policy for Facebook Australia Mia Garlick spoke exclusively to 7NEWS.com.au.

“The driver for this has been feedback from well-being researchers and from mental health experts who are concerned about the sort of social pressure that happens when you can count how many likes or interactions another person gets compared to your own,” says Garlick.

How will it work?

You can still see your likes by tapping on the liker list, but others will not be able to see how many likes or reactions your post has received.

Likewise, you will not be able to see how many likes other posts have notched up.
While it will start rolling out today, it could be a few days before it actually hits your account.

There will also be a 'hold out' group – users who won’t see any changes.

Facebook says this will allow them to compare how people react.

Wissam Al Mana, a Qatari billionaire, business magnate and ex-husband of pop star Janet Jackson has launched a court action against Facebook in a Dublin court over fake crypto ads, published on the social media.

The series of bogus advertisements promoting fake crypto investments were featuring Al Mana name and image.

The Qatari businessman is claiming defamation, malicious falsehood and false advertising by a crypto currency company, that Facebook allowed to advertise on its network.
