Systems that doesn't make sense

I remember Jim Simons (from Renaissance Technologies, one of the best monitored hedge fund out there) saying : "
the best systems we have, are the ones that doesn't make sense, which is probably because few people are trading them".
I don't quite understand what he meant by "doesn't make sense"
What could he mean by that ?

ain't that more like totally random strategies that look like nothing
like 3 times RSI divided by the slope of half MACD minus the open price to the power of the lowest of 3 bars ago ?
kind of rubbish looking but powerful in a way ?

also what he once said is to let the system find strategies, within the price, rather than trying to find one yourself
which is weird...does he have some kind of automation that finds strategies automatically ? could be the solution
or he is just bullshitting us, and he is just buying and holding
