This question is for mladen, Mr Tools, or anyone else with a math degree. Without question mladen has created some great indicators. Two unique indicators that I can recall off hand is mladen's emad and step averages. My question is simply how? How does one math a new average?

Have you read the Wiki article to MAs? You need your samples and a formula how to treat them. The SMA is just a normal mean like (a+b+c)/3. You can weight newer samples linear or exponential and/or modify this with standard deviation or volume or whatever you have in mind. Smoothing and doubling is also an option. You see, the possibilities are numerous, the results only have to make sense. Everyone can have his own MA.
