And meanwhile he continues to move his chess pieces about the board trying desperately to intimidate the Iranians.

I doubt that will work, the general feeling in Iran seems to be that they should not have accepted the ending of the 12 Day war last June as a draw. They were ready to go for a final full on confrontation then but their leaders (now disceased) were not brave enough, now they know that Israel and the US will keep trying to destroy them as they have been trying since the overthrow of the Shah.

Reminder that the overthrow was facilitated by a certain US peanut farmer and the new Ayatollah was vetted and approved by the CIA beforehand.

So anyway, Trump has more troops arriving in the Gulf on Friday and he may even order them to land somewhere, not Khag island though, that would mean sailing through the Straits and the US navy has already refused that order.

They could land on Iran's southern coast hundreds of miles from the Strait but for what purpose? Other than just being target practice for Iranian missiles.

The latest batch of troops Trump is sending are from airborne divisions to be deployed by helicopters which are well known as being easy air defence missile fodder so good luck with that.

Of course Trump has said the US destroyed all Iran’s air defence (along with everything else) but the US air force still does not fly over Iran and a curiously significant number of US planes are still falling out of the skies over neighbouring countries.

So long as Iran can keep the Straits closed and the US from flying overhead and dropping their stockpile of millions of dumb gravity bombs then Iran is still winning.

The US navy ships are said to be close to running out of Tomahawks and will need to return to a base to be resupplied leaving any ground forces without cover so the prospective landing may still be just a bluff. Israel is also close to being out of attack missiles and more important out of air defence missiles as well.

Iran meanwhile is said by western analysts to have a stockpile of at least 90,000 long range drones and an unknown store of missiles but also believed to be in the 10s of thousands.

US Objectives:
1/ Regime change.
2/ Seize nuclear material.
3/ Open the Straits of Hormuz

‘Wait a minute, weren't the Straits open before we even started?’

‘Err, yes, but err … well you know.’

So you can see the problem Trump has in trying to find an off ramp, he wants at least 1 win first but the harder he tries the worse it gets.

But whatever, on the bright side the next new adventure should create plenty more excellent short term speculative market opportunities such as those made by Trump's recent social media posts.
