Ugandan Lydia Mugambe tricked her fellow countrywoman into coming to the UK. She forced her to work as a maid for free and prevented her from seeking paid work. The judge exploited and abused her victim, taking advantage of her ignorance of her basic rights.
Mugambe conspired with Uganda's Deputy High Commissioner to arrange for her slave to come to the UK. Her accomplice covered all the costs and in return asked the judge to influence a case in which he was involved.
