YES.. this can be done.. i am not sure STLM histrogram will repaint... i will try this as well.. I added in my chart, my BREAK HORIZONTAL LINE IS VERY POWERFUL and identlify trend with STLM indictaor...

using stlm histogram with two color on slope(that seems better idea to me for its proper use) provides good filter of macd, see attached image, stlm histogram is nonrepainting, behaves just like any momentum catching indicator, but with more smooth characteristics to filter whipsaws.
